Whirlwind Wednesday

Happy Wednesday folks!

Hope to see some of you for support group tonight our topic is "The First Few Months".

The first few months following Bariatric surgery life changing and a crucial stage that really gears you up for the rest of your journey. From what kind of foods you can eat, how much you can eat almost like a newborn baby you have to learn how to eat again.Six weeks post op you will be on a liquid diet and advance to pureed foods as tolerated. After 6 weeks you may introduce solids back into your diet.

There are some known foods that many seem to not be able to tolerate including; nuts, seeds, dried fruits, popcorn, carbonated beverages, granola, fried foods and any type of tough meats. Not as many complaints but stringy or fibrous vegetables such as celery, broccoli, corn and cabbage are also things to that folks avoid after surgery. If the post-op diet isn’t followed it can really disrupt the healing process for example it can put stress on the staple line and lead it to leak or possibly cause perforation.

What recommendations do you all have regarding the first few months after surgery, we would love your input!

Below is an example for a day on the liquid diet. Hydration and protein intake is key in these first six weeks and overall life after surgery. When you’re not sipping on water, sip on protein. Have a wonderful rest of your day everyone!
